The Gold Standard

Dr. Peter Gold, a former Tulane University medical student whose November 2015 shooting in the Lower Garden District was captured on surveillance video, is a real inspiration to all of us at OMIC. The Golds have been part of OMIC’s family for many years. Dr. Gold’s father, Robert S. Gold MD, is a practicing ophthalmologist in Florida and has been an OMIC Board and Committee member since 2011. Many of us were so excited to see Peter visit the OMIC exhibit at the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s annual meeting in Las Vegas just days before this horrific incident. We are so grateful for his complete recovery.

You may have seen Dr. Gold’s story on the news as it was widely covered on local and national television networks. Watch a recent interview of Peter on the Today Show below.

Now, the Golds have turned a near-fatal tragedy into an innovative effort to prevent the kind of senseless violence that occurred on that fateful evening. We hope you will consider donating your time or money to this worthwhile organization, Strong City, and help end a cycle of despair so often felt in our inner cities.

Six reasons OMIC is the best choice for ophthalmologists in America.

Consistent return of premium.

Publicly-traded insurance companies exist to make profits for shareholders while physician-owned carriers often return profits to their policyholders. Don’t underestimate this benefit; it can add up to tens of thousands of dollars over the course of your career. OMIC has one of the most generous dividend programs for ophthalmologists and has returned more than $90 Million to our members through dividends.
