Swift-Moving California Optometric Surgery Bill Presents National Threat to Safety

From AAO:

A California bill that would authorize optometrists to do eye surgery with minimal education and training is only steps from becoming law. Sponsored by practicing optometrist and state Sen. Ed Hernandez, SB 622 will become California law if passed by the state Assembly. It has already passed the Senate. If signed into California law, SB 622 could have national scope-of-practice implications affecting eye patients in states across the nation. SB 622 would authorize optometrists to perform scalpel and laser surgeries, intraocular and other injections.
