Does OMIC offer coverage for LTK (Laser Thermal Keratoplasty)?

In 2000, Sunrise Technologies’ Hyperion LTK (Laser Thermal Keratoplasty) system obtained FDA approval for the temporary treatment of hyperopia in patients over age 40 who have no more than 0.75 diopters of astigmatism and between 0.75 and 2.50 diopters of hyperopia. OMIC understands that Sunrise Technologies is no longer in business, and the cards required for use of the Hyperion laser may no longer be available. It is possible, however, that physicians may continue to perform LTK until their existing supplies of cards are depleted. For this reason, OMIC continues to extend coverage for this procedure.

Publicly-traded insurance companies exist to make profits for shareholders while physician-owned carriers often return profits to their policyholders. Don’t underestimate this benefit; it can add up to tens of thousands of dollars over the course of your career.
