Robert Wiggins MD

Robert Wiggins MD – Treasurer

Dr. Wiggins specializes in pediatric ophthalmology and neuro-ophthalmology and serves as the physician administrator for Asheville Eye Associates.  He graduated from medical school at UNC-Chapel Hill and then completed an ophthalmology residency at Duke.  He then performed a fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus at Baylor/Texas Children’s Hospital and then returned to Duke for a neuro-ophthalmology fellowship.  Following his fellowship training, Dr. Wiggins served for one year as Clinical Assistant Professor of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus at King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital, and since 1991 has practiced at Asheville Eye Associates.  He obtained a Master of Healthcare Administration degree from UNC-Chapel Hill in 2003 and serves as the physician administrator for his practice. He currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Board of the American Association of Ophthalmic Executives, and the Board of the Ophthalmic Mutual Insurance Company.  He has also served as President of the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus.
