2013 Members Report

In Defense of Good Medicine

Favorable operating performance and positive claims experience in 2012 and 2013 once again places OMIC among the most financially sound carriers in America. We could never have achieved such superior results without the support of policyholders like you, and, therefore, we are pleased to announce that OMIC’s Board of Directors approved a 25% dividend for all active physician-insureds as of December 31, 2013, to be applied as a credit to your 2014 renewal premium.

In addition, there will be no rate changes for 2014; your competitive 2013 rates will be extended through your 2014 policy period. OMIC has maintained competitive rates and declared more than $30 million in dividend credits since 2005. There is no other carrier in America that has produced such consistent value for policyholders.

We are also pleased to present the 2013 OMIC Members Report, In Defense of Good Medicine. This year’s report highlights OMIC’s exceptional claims experience because the financial health of your company is directly related to our successful management of ophthalmic claims and lawsuits. OMIC is ranked #1 among our peers in claim performance, which we believe is largely the result of the high participation of our insureds in risk management programs. These programs provide our insureds with both immediate and longterm benefits in the form of premium discounts and lower liability risk.

Six reasons OMIC is the best choice for ophthalmologists in America.

Best at defending claims.

An ophthalmologist pays nearly half a million dollars in premiums over the course of a career. Premium paid is directly related to a carrier’s claims experience. OMIC has a higher win rate taking tough cases to trial, full consent to settle (no hammer) clause, and access to the best experts. OMIC pays 25% less per claim than other carriers. As a result, OMIC has consistently maintained lower base rates than multispecialty carriers in the U.S.
